 FAQs

1. What is seated shiatsu massage?

Seated shiatsu is a type of pressure-point massage performed with the client seated (often fully clothed) in a chair or stool. Therapists apply presses, squeezes, and percussions on the shoulders, neck, back, and arms to release tension quickly

2. How does it differ from traditional shiatsu?

It adapts full-body shiatsu techniques (based on acupressure and meridian theory) to a seated position and shorter timeframe, typically without the use of oil or floor mats .

3. What are the benefits?

  • Rapid stress and headache relief—clients frequently report instant improvements
  • Promotes relaxation, improved circulation, and muscle ease
  • Convenient for workplaces, events, and brief wellness breaks.

4. What happens during a session?

Clients remain fully clothed in loose attire, sit in a specially designed massage chair or stool, while the therapist applies targeted pressure to the upper body using hands, thumbs, elbows, and percussion .

5. Is it painful?

Seated shiatsu typically uses moderate pressure. Some areas may feel intense if tight, but it should never be painful. Communicate with your therapist to ensure comfort

6. How long does it last?

Sessions often range from 30-60 mins though can extend to 90 minutes depending on client needs and setting

7. Who is it suitable for?

Ideal for office workers, busy individuals, travelers, or anyone needing quick tension relief. It’s also accessible for people who can’t comfortably lie down .

Contraindications include:

  • Bone fractures, osteoporosis, open wounds, inflamed skin
  • Blood clots, cancer, uncontrolled diabetes
  • High-risk pregnancy (unless prenatal-trained therapist)

8. How often should I get it?

  • For acute tension or stress: weekly sessions are effective
  • For maintenance and wellness: monthly or bi-monthly is common

9. What should I wear and expect?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing like tracksuits or yoga wear. Bring any pre-existing health concerns to the therapist. Expect full-body posture assessment and focused upper-body work tailored to your needs
